Ben Stokes played 105 ODIs for England and says he can't give 100% in all three formats.
Ben Stokes played his farewell ODI against South Africa on July 20. He gave up 44 runs and no wickets in five overs. He couldn't reach double digits and lost while trying a reverse sweep.
Stokes declared his retirement, saying he couldn't play as well in all formats. After debuting in 2011, Stokes played 105 ODIs and became a crucial performer for England.
Stokes has captained England to four Test triumphs. Joe Root gave an impassioned speech to Stokes after his final ODI.
Root said Stokes revolutionized ODI cricket. Root offered Stokes a bottle of champagne as a sign of appreciation for his ODI career.
"I can't say anything about Ben," Root said. Emotional. I'm an energetic friend. I mean careers. You did great fieldwork.
"Whether in the cup final or other situations. Fifers, hundreds, amazing fielding But know that some of your actions have captivated a nation. They've brought first-time gamegoers.
"Part of a team that transformed how many people play white-ball cricket in its format. Kids want to bat, bowl, and field because of how you did it in an England shirt. It's great to look back and think, "Wow, I did it all."
"From my and this group's perspectives, it's been fun. It's been an adventure. We're extremely proud of you! You've been a terrific player and bloke, so here's a modest gesture to say "Congratulations, pal."
